Transforming Martin’s Country Store with Modern Lighting

We recently had the pleasure of working with Josiah Martin, of Martin’s Country Store in Moira, NY, to revamp the lighting in his charming shop. It’s always a joy to collaborate with small business owners who are passionate about enhancing their space, and Josiah’s project was no exception. His store originally relied on outdated fluorescent tube fixtures, but he envisioned something better—track lighting that would elevate both the ambiance and functionality of his shop.

Choice and Installation

Josiah opted for our architectural black track system, complete with matching fixtures and power feeds. To tie it all together, he painted his ceiling to complement the sleek black finish, creating a seamless look that added depth and a sense of height to the space. One of the clever aspects of this choice was its practicality: he could reuse the existing junction boxes for power while extending the track along the full length of his aisles.

With the directional fixtures, Josiah gained the flexibility to spotlight pathways and showcase his products effectively. He selected large PAR38 LED bulbs with a warm 3000K color temperature. This choice delivered impressive light output while steering clear of the harsh, cool-toned LED lighting of the past. The transformation was striking, These before-and-after photos reveal a warmer, more inviting environment that’s sure to delight his customers.

One Issue We Ran Into

While the warm 3000K lighting worked wonders for enhancing the vibrant colors of the overall store and drawing attention to boxed and canned goods, it didn’t quite hit the mark for everything. The combination of the bulb size and lumen output overwhelmed the meat display, washing out the colors and leaving the cuts looking almost grey—not exactly the fresh, appetizing look Josiah wanted.

The Solution

To address this, we sent Josiah our LED CCT Selectable architectural black flat back cylinder track light fixture to test out. This fixture offers a robust 1500-lumen output, maintaining the strong illumination he needed, but its smaller built-in LED module softens the effect. The real game-changer? The CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) technology, which allows Josiah to adjust the color temperature on-site. No need to swap bulbs or fixtures—he can fine-tune the lighting to find the perfect setting that highlights the freshness and rich tones of his meat display. He will  also use this selectable fixture on the fresh fruit and vegetables to bring out the yellows and greens.
